Lonmin-IFC Partnership
The goal of the Lonmin-IFC partnership was to sustainably developed Lonmin's workforce and the communities in which it operated in in South Africa. Over the course of the two years that Alex Burger lead a US$6million program, working with over 50 staff and consultants. Some key results from the program were:
- 33 local firms developed and awarded over US$43 million of contracts from the mine
- 43% increase in female employment at the mine over one year, with over 500 new women hired.
- 100,000+ individuals educated through HIV outreach and 1,000 new patients receiving care
- 20 community projects worth over US$11 million planned and set into implementation
ExxonMobil – IFC Partnership
The goals of the ExxonMobil-IFC partnership was to maximize the benefits from the Chad-Cameroon pipeline project to the citizens of Chad. For two years Alex Burger lead IFC's development program in Chad, with a staff of twenty, and four offices throughout the country. Results from the program were:
- 400 local firms trained in business development basics
- 11 Chadian firms contracted with ExxonMobil for US$35m of new contracts
- Local village poultry farms established now producing 20,000 eggs/month
Federation of Child Care Centers of Alabama (FOCAL)
FOCAL is a thirty seven year old grassroots community based organization based in Alabama, dedicated to empowering African-American communities and those entrusted with the care of young children. Over a seven year period, Alex Burger worked with FOCAL in a number of capacities. Results from his are:
- 100+ child care providers and community entrepreneurs trained in business basics
- US$23 million of new state funding allocated for child care through policy development and advocacy
Corporate Foundation for Children (CFC)
CFC lead the creation of a regional Family and Child Training Systems (FACTS). FACTS trained hundred over governmental and NGO groups to increase their capacity and service delivery quality.
- 100+ agencies trained to improve communication and promote diversity.
- A framework developed for the Ala. Dept. of Children's Affairs to track family well being outcomes in 67 counties
- A new cross-functional division and training program developed in the Ala. Cooperative Extension System
